Hello, stranger!

My name is Oleg Shevelyov. I’m a Russian freelance journalist and writer, raised in Siberia, moved to Barcelona in 2009.

You are on my Russian blog «Обыкновенная жизнь в Барселоне» (An Ordinary Life in Barcelona), where I’ve published more than 800 illustrated essays, notes, interviews, and mini-stories, some of which ended up in my Russian book about curiosities of life in Barcelona. I used to write for a local Russian magazine «Твой город» (Your city), and I have some experience as a journalist back in Russia, and a novelist, co-author of two novels. Illustrations to my publications in the blog are done by 5 brilliant artists; currently, I’m working with Tania Efimova.

Starting from January 2014, I decided to switch from Russian to English and from non-fiction to fiction in my writing. I still write some non-fiction and interview interesting people in Barcelona for my blog but much less than before.

At the moment, I’m working on a novel (in English!) about Barcelona’s petty criminal who, after stealing a suitcase from a Russian female dancer, struggles to disconnect herself from the criminal world of infamous Raval. The book is promising to be full of surprises and revelations. It will be illustrated by Tania Efimova, proofread and edited by Georgina Tremayne, and self-published on Amazon, where one can buy it as e-book.

If you are curious about my literary progress in English and wish to know when the book is out, please subscribe to my English e-mail updates. I promise it’s completely safe. I’ll bother you on very rare occasions only when I’m about to release something, and you’ll be able to unsubscribe whenever you want.

Thank you very much for you interest and support!

Oleg
